OK, I’ve officially turned this week into the Way-Back Machine. Sorry. But I guess I have to get this out of my system. I’ve seen so many great photos…
These are from 1958. Mom (Delores Taylor) is pregnant with TC (who will be born in September). Three of these photos are from a trip to Disneyland, and one of them (immediately below) is from, I believe, a trailer we stayed at in Palm Springs (I’m going to have to check on this one). I think it’s a trailer because a) it looks like it, and b) I don’t recognize it at all. Being a super-sharp 2 year-old, I’m sure I remember everything perfectly.
Several things strike me about these photos:
- Mom looking like a movie star/rock star in her cateye glasses.
- How kind of ordinary (compared to today) Disneyland looked in 1958 (three years after it opened). I like the very plain looking ‘Space Bar’ billboard in the background of the top photo.
- How COOL people dressed to go to Disneyland. The girl waiting near us could have gone to a dance or Disneyland. And in the last photo, her friend is wearing saddle shoes.
- And last, I can still drive a damn mean Autopia!
These photos are all so adorable! Your mom was an awesome mom, very loving, you can plainly see the love the two of you shared and surely still share today.
delores taylor was definately a 50s’ knockout. i dig the capri pants women wore back then.
You’re mom Delores was always turning heads, beautiful inside and out, and you apparently caught the racing bug a an early age… Happy Thanksgiving to all the Laughlin clan from the Sosa’s.
