Sunset Strip Billboard 1973

When ‘Billy Jack’ was re-released in 1973 as part of the settlement of the lawsuit with WB, Tom directed the marketing of the film region-by-region across the country. It took about 16 months for the film to work it’s way across the country, finally winding up back in Los Angeles.

This photo was sent back to WB by The Goodman Organization, which may have been responsible for placing the advertising or simply for taking pictures of the billboards. For those of you Angelinos that were around at the time, you may remember the used auto lot that specialized in foreign cars that you can see in this photo. The lot and this billboard are long gone, but we’ve got this photo to prove they were there at one time. Would love to know how much that Mini was going for…

The slide at top was messengered to WB in this envelope from The Goodman Company. (I like that the phone number on the envelope doesn't have an area code because in those days Los Angeles - including the Valley - was one area code: 213)
