When Tom and his crew of brainiacs were re-releasing Billy Jack across the country in 1972-1973, they didn’t think outside the box, they created a whole new box… and then blew it up, and created again.
The shots below are from what would be probably one of the world’s first infomercials, a show selling Billy Jack. As you can see from the ‘BJ’ hanging on the wall, this was the Billy Jack show (I don’t know actually what it was called, but it was expressly to promote the film and nothing else). Tom’s group arranged for the stage, hired the interviewer, and brought in extras to listen to Tom talk about the film. This particular show was in Dayton, Ohio, one of the hubs for promoting the film.
This was just one of the promotions of the film, along with public appearances, massive advertising, contests, live bands, karate demonstrations, and Billy Jack days.
Were you there? Or at one of these shows in another part of the country? Did you see this show when it played on TV?
