Tom Making Deals… circa 1958

Tom Laughlin on the phone making deals (we can pretend) circa 1958

This was in an apartment we lived in on Kiowa Ave near San Vicente in Los Angeles. This picture is from the time when Tom started to make his own films - The Proper Time and The Young Sinners. There’s no date on the picture, but I recognize the apartment and the white T-shirt and khaki pants Tom always wore at this time. I like the folding chair (we didn’t have much furniture), and the old-type phone that was really heavy, like a barbell. It was a workout just to talk on the phone. And, you can’t see it, but those phone had really short cords and rotary dials. Last historical note: this was back when you told someone your phone number by saying something like Glendale 45345. Glendale stood for ‘G’ and ‘L’ being the first two numbers of the phone number. Man have things changed.
